I hope you had a fabulous Christmas! I did! It was crazy and chaotic (mostly self induced), but SO good! I think I cried happy tears at least 30 times. Being a mom has turned me into a huge sap.
If you are following me on Instagram you probably saw the play kitchen I refinished for my daughter. For some ridiculous reason I decided to take on the toy making myself this year…no disrespect to the elves, I think they do fine work.
Here’s the kitchen before… It was a little haggard, but it has been around for a loooong time! I used to play with this thing when I was little.
Although I was able to sneak a few coats of paint during a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse marathon, most of my work was done in my freezing, poorly lit garage after my kids went to bed. So, unfortunately, I don’t have any ‘during’ pictures to share.
This thing almost did me in. It was a TON of work, and I think I have an ulcer because of it, but it was so worth it! I LOVE how it turned out.
I didn’t like the blue plastic ‘window’ on the one cupboard door so I decided to cover it with some chalkboard paint. Since the plastic was missing from the other one I added a piece of beadboard to cover it up. I liked the way it looked so I added some to the bottom cupboard, too.
The existing wood on the sides of the kitchen was pretty bowed so I tore it off and added bead board there, too.
A little faux marble laminate for the countertop and a subway tile backsplash. Luckily, Saylor slept til 9 on Christmas morning because I was just finishing this part around 3 AM. Seriously. Livin’ on the edge.
I had originally planned on making another cabinet door and drawer to replace the missing ones, but ya know…time. So, I sewed a little curtain and attached it with some upholstery tacks. I’m actually glad I ran out of time because I love the curtain! It adds the perfect amount of color and makes it a little more girly.
AND she actually plays with it! She’s been cooking us food all day long.
